Paris Saint-Germain Edges Marseille in a Shootout to Lift Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now secured the season-opening cup on fourteen different occasions.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the match between the Ligue 1 champions and the French Cup winners after the French winger opened the scoring early on.

Yet, the southern French side struck two times late to take a shock advantage. First, Mason Greenwood converted from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial equaliser in the final seconds to send the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping crucial attempts from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all scored with composure for PSG to seal a convincing penalty victory.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the past 13 years.
